Description
"Nocturne in Gray and Gold" is one of the most rare of all the graphic works by Mihail Chemiakin. This piece is a serigraph in 80 colors on canvas. It has been custom stretched using 1 1/2" bars with center braces both across and up and down. This provides significantly increased protection. No picture can show the true beauty and quality of this piece of art. Seeing is believing and I think for the first time, following dozens of attempts, I have finally obtained a somewhat reasonably accurate picture of "Nocturne in Gray and Gold". The texture shown in the highlighting, exists throughout the print. The second picture shows "Nocturne in Gray and Gold" in our home and, while it is not the piece we are offering (on canvas) in this listing, at a buyer’s option, we will sell this framed piece at the same price. The edition size on stretched canvas is 135 and this is edition number 117/135. The framed piece above our fireplace is from an edition of only 40 on white paper. The frame cost was over $1,000.00. Chemiakin's serigraphs are truly master works, representative of his best work in the graphic medium. While he has created well in excess of 100 editions of lithographs, he has created only nine editions of serigraphs. His lithographs usually have 12 to 18 colors, while his serigraphs have 75 to 100 colors. Anyone wanting to own works by Mihail Chemiakin will find his serigraphs are by far the most beautiful and valuable in the graphic medium and have very limited availability. Mihail Chemiakin is one of the foremost international artists of our time. A quote from the Robb Report (Jan. 1995) states "so great are his talents that he is one of the few artists working today who sets the standard by which all other contemporary art is measured". The extent of his accomplishments, exhibitions and awards are too great to even try and mention, but I will mail his 5 page biography upon request. He has earned 5 honorary doctorates. The Hermitage Museum held an exhibition in Oct. 1995 of such magnitude that a 7 volume catalog was printed for it. Packing, shipping and insurance is $50.00 for the piece on stretched canvas, via U.P.S. 2nd Day Air, to destinations within the Continental U.S.A. The cost of shipping the framed piece is $100.00 via U.P.S. Ground to locations within the Continental U.S.A. Wisconsin residents will be charged sales tax of 5.5%.
