He was one of seven children and privileged to come from a family of artists. Both of his grandfathers were great artists and his mother was an art teacher. "I remember being captivated by the grace and emotion on my grandmother's face as she watched her favorite television program, the Mahalia Jackson Special", he says. "I soon realized that with a basic no. 2 pencil I could preserve that expression on paper. I enjoyed the results so much; I went on to experiment with different pencils." In 1973, he moved from England to pursue a bachelor's degree in Product Design at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Seven years later, he finally moved to the United States where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Environmental Design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His greatest interest, however, remained in illustrating with pencils, with a particular focus on faces. "I find qualities in each generation that excite me, from the innocence and sincerity of the children, to the energy and drama of the youth, to the great character and wisdom of the older generation." The artist has since participated in hundreds of art festivals throughout the United States, including major events like the Columbus Arts Festival in Columbus (Ohio), the Park City Arts Festival in Park City (Utah) or the Main Street Arts Festival in Fort Worth (Texas). Artist’s Statement "My greatest desire is to bring out the beauty, strength and dignity of each person I illustrate. My compositions encompass personalities and wildlife from around the world. The subjects that capture my attention usually have unique features and expressions that say a thousand words. The pencil greatly compliments my work and brings out the contrast with such distinctive intensity that gives life to the drawing. With over thirty years of experience in the field, I use only the finest materials. The size of my original compositions ranges from 24"x 30" to 40"x 60". Upon completion, each illustration is sprayed with a special fixative to prevent it from smudging or fading. This also adds to the necessary archival protection.
