The book which was signed and numbered included a total of 38 prints (23 color, 15 black/white) published in 1967 by Tèriade with an edition of 250 which are only signed and numbered at the justification page of each suite. The print is referenced in catalogue raisonné Mourlot 490.. This print is the Frontpiece of the suite and obviously the most desirable. Print size 12 ¾” x 16 5/8” on Arches paperThe condition is pristine, it has NEVER been framed and has been stored in ideal climate controlled storage for 35 yearsCompare with offerings of $ 17,000.00 This exuberant and dynamic series of lithographs around the circus motif is one of Chagall’s most celebrated. Like many of his lithographs, these images underwent changes over several years and were painted with an array of media. In the 1920’s Ambroise Vollard and Chagall attended the circus with some regularity. Chagall gradually became more and more intoxicated by the elaborate costumes, fantastic stunts and ancient dances.
