Description
HOKUSAI WOODBLOCK PRINT STYLE FIBER ART BY BETTY STEWART FROM 1970'SThis piece measures 19" x 18.5" (48cm x 47cm) outside dimensions with a 3/4" (2cm) frame. This two dimensional vintage FIBER ART is constructed of hand stitched colored yarn. The wild 1970's color palette includes red-violet, bubble gum, navy blue and white with violet, carmen red, burnt orange, goldenrod and salmon accents. It features an awesome Katsushika Hokusai woodblock print style motif with his famous "finger waves" in the foreground. This American artist (from Long Beach, CA. I believe) used in the background a glaring sun to remark on the locale of Southern California in lieu of the native Japanese subject of Mt. Fuji. The large waves allude to the high Southern California surf instead of a storm of off the island nation of Japan. This image was based on Hokusia's Great Wave off Kanagawa from series The 36 views of Mt. Fuji from the 1830's. The horizontial lines in the background allude to the lines on Japanese WASHI PAPER used on a traditional woodblock print. It is in EXCELLENT CONDITION with only some nicks and scratches on the ORIGINAL FRAME made of chrome-plated strips on wood. It is HAND SIGNED "Betty Stewart" and "1977" on the brown paper backing (this brown paper was a little tore up so it was taped) on the verso. She apparently gave this to her grandkids from her personal collection (this was probably one of her favorites) in 1987 as it is inscribed as such on the back. Interestingly, three of the grandkids are named Keiko, Mika and Mei-Mai (Japanese names) so one can ascertain the artist had close ties with Japanese culture. I have seen a few of these woodblock style fiber art pieces in the Long Beach, CA. vicinity (I used to live there) in the past so I believe she was a local California fiber artist of the time period. What a great addition to your woodblock collection of MOD PAD!! RetroMart NEVER engages in the cheesy activity of ending an auction early due to bidder inactivity.HOW TO BIDEbay uses a proxy bid system. This means that the bidding process is automatic so you don't have to re-enter a higher bid. The system will do it for you in the event another bid is placed. The new bid price will be .01 cent above the amount of the other bidder. The best way to bid is to enter the maximum amount you want to pay for the object now. If you wait until later to place a bid your odds of winning the item will diminish. For instance, you may forget about the item until after the auction ends, when it's too late. Or, you may have technical difficulties at a future time with your computer or trouble logging on Ebay. Above all, the best way to prevent a last second sniper from getting the goods is to place the maximum amount you want to pay now! Thus the sniper's strategy is eliminated even with sniper software. And I am speaking through experience: I have lost items in the past due to procrastination! So, if you gotta have it, heed this advise!NUTS & BOLTS SO NOBODY GETS SCREWEDPlease view my steller feedback which demonstrates my goal of client satisfaction. You can tell that I get a lot of repeat business due to the large gap between the total "POSITIVES" and total "UNIQUE USERS." My only "negatives" are from deadbeat bidders who find it necessary to engage in the "retaliatory feedback" practice. And yes, if you waste my time and don't honor your bidding contract then appropriate feedback will be left. SO PLEASE, DON'T BID UNLESS YOU CAN COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. Payment is expected within 10 days after I email the invoice.COPYRIGHT NOTICEAll text and photographic images in this listing cannot be used unless permission is granted by RetroMartSCEUG
