It is signed and dated in the copper A Luna ’76.       The motif is a popular one –red roof tile houses on the hilly and mountainous terrain of Honduras. This is original work by Luna.     It measures 5 ¼ x 3 7/8 x 2 inches in height. The copper enameled panel is firmly attached to the mahogany lid that lifts open without hardware. The enamel is in perfect condition as is the box. It is signed on the bottom of the box Studio d’Arte, A Luna, Honduras, C.A.       ARTURO LUNA 1927-1978   Arturo Luna was born in Santa Rita, Copan, Honduras near the Maya Ruins of Copan. Copan is also referred to as the Alexandria of Central America.   Luna was one of Honduras’ principal fine art personalities and his paintings and ceramics were in exhibitions worldwide.     After he graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, he studied at the Superior Institute of Ceramics in Faena, Italy.   Later, Luna was head of the Ceramic department at the School of Fine Arts in Tegucigalpa and along with Arturo Machado, they founded the Arte Lumar Studio.     In 1958, he won the gold medal at the Grand Artist show at Monza with his painting, Mujer Joven con Sombrero.
