Description
Here is a rare offering, a signed and dated mixed media painting by Russian artist Inal Makeev (Moscow 1941). In the 1970s, Makeev was one of the founding fathers of a new trend in Soviet Modern Art called "Soc-Art" as a counterbalance to the official "Socialist Realism" genre. His mixed media paintings combine, pen, ink, oil, and airbrush to create both a "funny" and yet "grotesque" commentary on Russian life and history. In addition to his native Russia, Makeev has had his works exhibited in France, Sweden, Japan, and in the US at the famous Guggenheim Gallery of New York. This fantastic example of "Soc-Art" is a colorful fantasy of figures that are only hinted at and in poses that could be interpreted as either pain or joy. The artist gave this multi-colored piece the title "The Company," which is as open to interpretation as the painting itself. It is 15.5 inches (39.5 cm) by 19.5 inches (49.5 cm) and 18 inches by 22 inches with frame. It is signed and dated LR and titled on the back. This is both an exquisite example of modern Russian art by a master painter and a social-historical commentary that is not to be missed so don't hesitate to bid! Please see our other auctions for additional offerings of fine art glass and antiques. Kansas residents must add sales tax. Questions always welcomed. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND BIDDING!
