Description
Item Description: To your attention today - we would like to present 19th century Antique Russian oil Painting on canvas Attributed to a very famous & talented painter Hau (or Gau), Vladimir Ivanovich (Russian, 1817-1895). Portrait painting (mostly of the Russian Imperial Court royalties) was his favorite subject and this is an excellent example of his work. This is also a very rare find - most of his works are done on paper using watercolor, pencil or chalk and this one is an oil painting on canvas!!! Signature: Painting is signed & dated (I believe 1845?). Signature was tested under professional UV-light and guaranteed to be original to the painting and very old. Condition: Good. There is one patch (fix) in the corner done very professionally a long time ago. Provenance: From an Estate of Lillian Weinauer (Born in Russia. Immigrated to France in the beginning of 1900’s and then moved to US. She was thought by Gurdjiev and Uspenskiy - both very large names in philosophy in the beginning of 20th century. She died in a nursing home in Chestnut Ridge, NY). Size: 27" x 23” with frame, 17 1/2” x 21 1/2” without frame.
