Description This is a wonderful early toy, mid to late 19th century, of a Lion, in velvet, with early glass eyes, cotton mane, and hand-colored details on the face.  I was told it is an Amish toy, and I have seen several since and it does look to be the same quality and style as the other early stuffed Amish animals I have come across.  This very sweet little velvet toy measures approx. 7" long, from tip of nose to it's bottom--does not count the tail which would add a few inches to it's length.  It stands approx. 6 1/4" tall, from it's head.  It is in good condition for it's age, but does have some issues, not uncommon to these early, well played with toys.  One of the little cloth ears is missing and the face has come apart slightly from the cotton mane material, on one side.  You can see it is stuffed with very early wool, which helps authenticate and date this great little item.  Otherwise, it is a great find and would make a wonderful addition to anyone's collection of early toys or American folk art items!
