Description
Size 14 x16in 19thC watercolour This is one of two naive portraits we are putting up of a victorian gentleman and lady. Undated and unsigned, they came from the Sherley family, and this lady is Mrs George Sherleywho was before marrige, Elizabeth Sage. The two paintings are believed to be painted by Charlotte Sherley. The lady is beautifully painted in watercolour in a naive style, and apart from a small amount of what seems to be staining to the right of her head, is in very good condition. We were not even sure if the staining was a stain or if it was meant to be in the picture. She is dressed in a black dress, embellished with white lace at the throat, and a bonnet with a blue ribbon. In her hands is a sampler which she is busily sewing, while on the table at her side are spectacles and a bible. There is no signature that we can see unless it is under the border. As this is firmly attatched we do not want to dislodge it. Condition is very good . Cost to US $19.00...insured $29.00 Cost to UK$ 12.00
