For further information about this lot please log on to our eBay store or to our gallery (Bineth Gallery) website. Uri Lifshitz was born in 1936 in the kibbutz Givat Hashlosha, Israel. He is a self-taught artist. Lives and works in Tel Aviv. "You go to paint, stand in front of the white canvas, and all your lack of knowledge and ability confronts you. Everything is ready: you want man, you have one. You want a flower, you have one. And there's a house. And everything's at your disposal. You're equipped with imagination and you're going to use it. You begin drawing a horse, and think which is the more beautiful, a horse or a drawing? and a horse is more beautiful, and a man is more beautiful, and sun is more beautiful. You carry on and draw a man. And with your stammer, not dark and not light, and one leg shorter and clothes as if never fitted. And perfection, improvement, remains and you make use of all the improvements of time and of color and have not understood the simple." (from a conversation with Uri Lifshitz, Paintings and Etchings from Spain, Gordon Gallery, 1972, Tel Aviv). Lifshitz won several honorary prizes such as the Youth Prize in Exhibition of Young Israeli Artists, the Erasmus Fund Prize (chosen by Marc Chagall) and the Kolb Prize from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. He is considered one of the leading and influential artists in Israel. He had many one man shows around the world, at Constant Munt Galley (Amsterdam), Israel Museum (Jerusalem), Sao Paulo Biennale, Whitechapel Gallery (London) to mention only a few. * * * An official CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY issued by Bineth Gallery (Tel Aviv, Israel) will be provided with this work upon request * * * Starting bid of this lot is $400Auction House Bineth Gallery15 Frishman st.Tel-Aviv Israel 63578972-3-5238910Terms & ConditionsBy bidding in this auction, online, the purchaser or bidder agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions of Sale.
