This painting is featured on page 134 in the book, Jozef Meganck and his works, written in 1907. This work was created to emphasize the glory of the citizens of Aalst,Belgium and was exhibited in the capital of Brussels in 1860. It glorified the altar of the church of the black sisters of Assche, Belgium (near Brussels) and in 1895, when a new alter was installed; it was moved into the rectory. This extraordinary painting became especially famous for its color use, the beautiful expressions on the faces of the protagonists, and how Meganck idealized his characters. The scene includes 27 figures, Jesus, the center foci, is surrounded by six children and a mother carrying her child, with the disciples Peter and John bringing the poor and sick, and many other followers gather to the left. The background consists of palm trees, a mountain, and city in the valley. Truly a tremendous find!
