His father was a book illustrator. Between 1962-64 he studied with the painter Moses Chasanov. From 1965 to 1970 he studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, and then worked in Moskow as an illustrator and designer. in 1974 Rakuzin left the USSR and settled in Jerusalem, Israel. In 1980 he received the Feininger award for young artist. Rakuzin left Israel in 1980 to Paris, and has been living and working there since.
