Description
Over the last fifteen years, NASA has commissioned Mr. Nottebohm to create more than fifteen major works, including official paintings to commemorate the first launch of the space shuttle Columbia in 1981 and the first night launch in 1986, and has reportedly chosen him to represent the United States and its space exploration programs. Mr. Nottebohm's original paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world including the National Air and Space Museum and have been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, OMNI, Smithsonian Air and Space Magazine and Art Gallery International. This KN-M-1449 an original acrylic on Aluminum by Andreas Nottebohm was purchased from the WEINSTEIN GALLERY in San Francisco , CA on 1/13/1998. The artwork compete size framed is 48"request x 57". The art itself is 40" x 48". Very clean and prestigious. Like new condition. Images are only perceived through the courtesy of light, in darkness there is nothing to be seen: and in these remarkable paintings a unique, shifting, illuminating dance of light is both medium and message, it is their very vehicle, their essence, their substance. It is only after that initial, first impact that one is slowly aware, through the unfolding waves of subtle parallels to the history of art, that these glowing, carved metal wonders sum up so many of the aesthetic ideas of the great masters; and yet ultimately the first impression is the correct one, they stand on their own, not as ideas or as historical references but as magical, spine-tingling objects. WILL PROVIDE ORIGINAL RECEIPT FROM WEINSTEIN GALLERY. Nottebohm continues a long-standing art historical tradition that marries fine art and science in a seamless union. Like da Vinci before him, he draws on interests in geometry and the origins and operation of the universe to craft incredibly detailed artworks that are visually stunning as well as technically sophisticated. Nottebohm’s work is included in the collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum as well as Crocker Art Museum and Nevada Museum of Art. Nottebohm’s metal works invoke characteristics of sculpture, inviting light and shadow to animate his carefully designed topographies. “Nottebohm’s technique of grinding aluminum with a power sander results in holographic spatial effects that tease the eye and challenge the mind”, observes Crocker Art Museum curator Scott Shields.
