Description
Hi there, After many years of buying for my Americana collection on Ebay I have decided I need to thin out my collection. I am offering up over the next couple months some very choice Americana items for your consideration. Please contact me with any questions regarding these items. For your consideration is a very early New England bail handled pantry box which I purchased from one of my favorite Ebay Americana dealers a few years ago. This pantry box is in the ORIGINAL dry attic surface throughout and is in very good condition with very minor losses and abrasions consistent with the age of the piece. The pantry box is signed by I believe the maker ( very well could be the owner) on the bottom of the piece as well as on the interior. The initials are S.T.C.C. My research indicates that this box was most likely made in MA - definitely New England. The Pantry box is constructed with EARLY cut nails and wooden pegs. The dimensions of the piece are as follow: Height 10" with bale handle up, and width 10" , height to top without bale handle up is 5 1/8". There is a hairline on the top of the bail handle that does not penetrate the handle. The photo of the bottom appears that there is a red wash but that is not the case- it is the original nut brown surface. I believe the woods to be white pine for the bottom, possibly hickory for the handle and possibly oak or chestnut for the side construction. I have a modest reserve on this piece. Thank you for looking and please do look at my other items!
