Description
This is an Antique C1860-80 Victorian Child's Red Challis Dress in a Beautiful design and condition. It is all beautifully handstitched with unbelievable stitching done by a master dressmaker. The wool challis was quality high grade fabric in its day and is now in beautiful condition giving way to the fact that this dress does not appear to have ever been worn or used and is perhaps museum quality. There are about ten microscopic pin dot size holes in the skirt that are almost impossible to find. The neck, armholes and waist have been piped, and there is interesting pleating patterns at the waist which gives the dress the skirt fullness. The whole bodice and sleeves are fully lined in cotton muslin. Six of the original tiny black buttons remain. Also notice the pleating detail at the front and back bodice. The black cloverleaf detail accent is all braid beautifully (almost invisibly stitched) handsewn on. Interestingly a name "D. McKeovin" is sewn into the front bodice neck. The dress measures 25" shoulder to hem, 23" waist, 8" bodice shoulder to hem, and 7" sleeve length. Any shine or glare or lightening of the red fabric is camera flash effects on the red challis and is not there on the fabric ( I tried several ways to photograph and non were as good as the dress in real life so I hope the quality of this dress is coming through). The challis is outstanding and this dress is exceptional.
