Original oil on canvas by Carl Arp ( 1867 - 1913 ): 21 3/4 inches by 16 3/4 inches ( 55.5 x 42.5cm ): signed and dated lower left - " C. Arp 1900 ". ( inscribed on lower stretcher bar/verso - " St. Moritz " ): original frame: frame size is 23 1/4 by 18 3/4 inches ( 59 x 46.5cm ). An exceptional example of the work of Carl Arp from his best period ( works circa 1900 ), when Arp worked in a richly colored pallet with vibrant, thickly painted, Van Gogh/Giovanni Segantini like strokes. This work is especially collectable because location is identified and Arp has included a figure in the landscape which he rarely did. NOTE: Auktionshaus Stahl in Hamburg sold a less interesting oil landscape image from the same period ( 1903 ) with similar thick brushstrokes, titled " Blick auf Timmendorf ", measuring 18.5 x 28 inches in their upcoming sale on February 23, 2008 for $8,673 USD ( 5.500 Euro hammer price ). Auktionshaus Stahl also sold an oil by Arp from the same period with a similar thick vibrant brushstroke look to mine, titled " Morsumer Kliff auf Sylt ", 17 5/8 x 23 5/8 inches, sold 3 November 2007 for $11,571 ( 8,000 Euro ).
