He began his studies at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts under renowned American artist Thomas Eakins, followed by further study in Paris Academies Julian, Vitti and Delecluse. He was a member of numerous associations including the California Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, and the National Academy of Design.He first went to California in 1915, spending the winter in Los Angeles and in 1921, in Santa Barbara, where he served as Dean of Painting at the Santa Barbara Community School of Arts.Cooper died 1937 in Santa Barbara, California.This is a classic academy figure drawing, and it is believed that the drawing was accomplished at one of the academies in Paris where Colin Cooper studied as a young man.There are some tears on the top left edge of the paper that existed originally from the Estate of Colin Campbell Cooper.The drawing is matted and sealed in plastic.This drawing is a stunning example of the artist talents. It was purchased from the Sullivan Goss Gallery, LTD. Santa Barbara, Ca. and bares the Colin Campbell Cooper estate seal on the lower right hand corner of the drawing. (see photo)
