Description
17 different historical engravings of Greece by European Travelers, considered national heirlooms by Gabriel-Michael Dimitriadis, Greek Archaeologist and Historian, plus a frameable explanation of the collection and a framable page of Artist biographies.  Each engraving measures 19 inches by 13 1/4 inches with image sizes 16 inches by 10 1/8 inch on heavy, ribbed bond paper.  Ebay limits graphics to a maximum of 12 photos, so all engravings in this collection are not represented in this presentation. List of Engravings by Individual Artist: Artist:  Edward Dodwell (1767 - 1832) Plate 1: The west front of the Parthenon and the Erechtheion from the Propylaea  Plate 2: Southwest view of the Erechtheion  Plate 7: Southeast view of the Temple at Sunium  Plate 8:  Temple of Jupiter Panhellenios in the island of Aegina (Temple of Athena of Aegina)  Plate 12: Monastery of Megaspelion in Arcadia  Plate 13:  Monastery of Phaneromene in the island of Salamis  Plate 14: Temple of Apollo Epicurius on mount Kotylion in Arcadia  Plate 15: The Gate of the Lions at Mycenae  Plate 16: Village of Portaria on mount Pelion  Plate 17: View of Salonica Artists:  James Suart (1713-1788 - Nicholas Revett (1720-1804) Plate 5: A view of the Tower of the winds in its present condition  Plate 6: View of the Temple of Jupiter Olympius Artist:  Julien David Le Roy (1724-1803) Plate 3: View of the Ruins of the Propylea  Plate 4:   View of the monument of Lysikrares in Athens  Plate 9:  View of the ruins of the temple of Apollo of Corinth Artist:  Comte De Choiseul-Gouffier (1752-1817) Plate 10:  View of the Monastery of Saint John in the island of Patmos Artist:  Henir Belle (1837-1910) Plate 11:  Monastery of Daphni Engravings, introduction to the collection and artist biographies come packaged in a large blue folio with gold embossed lettering entitled, Hellas...still making history.  5,000 years of civilization, decorated with a seal from the shield of King Filipo, father of Alexander the Great.  A very limited number of these collections were made available to art lovers in Greece twelve years ago.  To the best of my knowledge, they are no longer available. Engravings are in excellent condition and ready for framing.  The introduction and biography pages show some evidence of handling with slightly nicked corners, but with care could be beautifully framed along with the engravings.  The folio cover, Hellas..., in gold print on a dark blue background, has been shifted from desk to shelf to desk over the years and shows noticeable evidence of handling. Even so, it remains impressive to view and should remain with the set. Payment will be expected within 7 days from the winning bidder.
