DESCRIPTION:Outstanding  among Devis works, this painting called Master Simpson, when exhibited at the New York World's Fair in 1939 was the first choice of the public in a popuilarity contest featuring many hundreds of paintings from all over the world. The valuable original is now in the possession of Duveen Brothers, New York. As you can see in the picture it is a young boy holding a puppy dog with colorful flowers in the background. When looked at it closely you can see that it is textured and not on a smooth surface, which leads us to believe it is magic.FRAMING: Conservation framed with archival materials and museum quality, this miniature is set within composite frame in a Victorian-Style bottle-green moulding with a delicate velvet texture. The muted green hues complement the bright and lovely colors within the work. Completed with a matching gold inner fillet, this work is set behind an archival Plexiglas® cover. Es el único miniaturista español del siglo XX considerado por la alta crítica de arte como un genio pictórico. Expone, por primera vez en Bilbao, en 1939, haciéndolo desde entonces en numerosas ocasiones en distintas ciudades españolas, así como en Lisboa, Paris y Nueva York. Fue Medalla de Honor de Artesania, en 1948. Su especialidad es la miniatura sobre marfil y sus temas favoritos son aquellos en los que predominan los desnudos -verdaderas joyas pictóricas-, temas originales y bíblicos. Cultiva igualmente el retrato en la miniatura y las copias de cuadros célebres de pintores como El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Tiziano, etc. La forma y técnica de la miniatura empleada por este pintor, es realizar el trabajo con pinceles muy sutiles, con pintura al óleo y sobre láminas de marfil, utilizando generalmente una lupa para mayor precisión. A lo largo de su trayectoria ha realizado numerosas exposiciones. En el año 1947, el Metropolitan Museum of Art, de Nueva York, le adquirió dos miniaturas. Sus obras se encuentran en museos y en colecciones particulares en España, Francia, Alemania, Italia, Portugal, Argel, Estados Unidos, Méjico, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Perú y Montevideo.
