Description
Being offered by the original owner, who always kept this fine print framed (but not on display, kept in dark storage), is this lithograph with colors by British pop artist David Hockney: "Picture of Melrose Avenue in an Ornate Gold Frame." It is a signed limited edition from 1965, edition no. 50/85. The actual frame is standard aluminum (gold) with simple white archival matting and materials, measuring 33-1/2 x 25-1/2 inches. The item can be shipped intact, minus the fragile glass, or rolled in a sturdy tubular box if buyer wishes. A new owner may decide to reframe it in a better frame. David Hockney is a popular artist who started gaining attention early in his career after studying in his native Great Britain, in the early 1960s. He had one-man shows in galleries there and in the US, where he relocated to Los Angeles. This print is one of his earliest efforts inspired by the sleek modern architecture and bright sunny skies of his new hometown. Hockney has kept a consistent style ever since, not only in fine art but also in set designs for operas. His work is featured in countless galleries and museums worldwide, and prices have steadily increased for his work. Read more about Hockney and brief highlights in Encyclopedia Britannica http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9040674/David-Hockney Read more about him in Artcyclopedia http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/hockney_david.html We will consider lower-priced offers under certain circumstances. Please note my 100% Positive approval rating here on eBay, after nine years selling art and other fine objects. Art is perhaps the last safe investment these days, especially that by established artists such as Hockney.
