It is a hand screened serigraph, created by the famed artist, EARL NEWMAN. Recently, THE SMITHSONIAN'S Division of Musical History in Washington, DC, has acquired his complete collection of his numbered/signed editions of MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL posters dating back to 1963. If you don't know about the Monterey Jazz Festival, then trust THE NEW YORK TIMES Reader's poll as it being "One of the best summer jazz festivals anywhere." In fact, the venerable festival salutes Earl Newman for his long-standing prized work for them, as does the Ashland Shakespeare Festival and the Abbot Kinney Street Fair in Venice! This Massachusetts College of Art and Harvard University Graduate School artist, has truly mastered a silk-screening technique (Serigraph) which through the years enables him to use different colors, papers and inks to create unique versions of individual pieces, resulting in no 2 works being alike. So: unlike mass-produced machine prints, each silk-screen print is made step by step and each color used is a separate printing. Though he reproduces some works, this is a VINTAGE original; "Venice Coffee House & Jazz Club Collection" was created, produced and signed in 1970. Exposed poster image (2 tiny .5 mm pin marks and light 6 mm mar to right black surface) measures 21.5" x 33.25" Beveled black cardboard matting measures 3.25" wide frame and sizes the whole piece at 28" x 40" I've enclosed pictured of these issues - Please have a look.
