Description
EARLY AMERICAN FOLK ART RACING HORSE RARE WOOD VINTAGE   This is an exceptional piece of American Folk Art and has never before been offered for sale. It is a racing horse and rider carved out of wood. From foot to foot the horse measures approx. 16 inches in length. The height at the highest points measures approx. 5 inches. This was originally designed and was placed on a fence of a riding ring located on a farm. You can see the jockey bent down with the horse in full gallop. The horse is painted brown with lighter brown accents. The jockey has brown pants with a maroon or red shirt. His hat matches his pants. The horse is numbered 15. It is made entirely of wood and has a metal piece in the bottom where it was attached to the fence. The paint is worn in a few places as you can see in the picture, which only adds to the character of the piece. This is truly a wonderful piece of vintage American Folk art and is a one of a kind. There were several horses around this ring with this one in the best condition. It was purchased from the original owner who was in his 70’s with the statement that they (the horses) had been around that ring for as long as he could remember. It probably dates in the early 20th Century or possibly earlier. Truly a great addition to any folk art or horse racing collection! It would look truly unique and stylish on almost any wall in any room in the house. It could have been used at a carnival or arcade as part of a shooting gallery game. Every effort has been made to describe this item as accurately as possible including flaws and imperfections.
