Description
Edna Boies Hopkins American. 1872-1937. Wife to James Roy Hopkins. This is a vintage, original and guaranteed authentic charcoal drawing on paper by Edna Boies Hopkins. Portrait of a young man seated on a stool, holding something in his hands. Initialed and dated “Oct.30, 1903” in the lower right by the artist. Museum mounted to a mat board. Measures 18 ¾ x 12 1/8 inches. The mat, which has some soiling, measures 20 x 16 inches. Ready for framing! Good condition. Comes out of a private estate. Comments: A woodblock printer whose favorite subject was flowers. She married artist James R. Hopkins in 1904; they traveled around the world, and she studied in Japan. While living in France, she befriended Claude Monet; and his garden at Giverny was the source for many of her floral prints. In 1915, she learned the white line/one woodblock technique from B.J.O. Nordfeldt in Provincetown, MA, and produced some landscape and figural prints. Her collection was discovered in Paris in 1984 and exhibited at the Mary Ryan Gal., NYC, 1986. ~Bid With Confidence~ I take pride in the items I offer on eBay and make every effort to describe them completely and accurately. Her name then was Edna Boise Bell. The work came from the Estate of James Hopkins and Edna from his brother Harold.
