Portrait of a young man seated on a stool, holding something in his hands. Initialed and dated “Oct.30, 1903” in the lower right by the artist. Museum mounted to a mat board. Measures 18 ¾ x 12 1/8 inches. The mat, which has some soiling, measures 20 x 16 inches. Ready for framing! Good condition. Comes out of a private estate. Comments: A woodblock printer whose favorite subject was flowers. She married artist James R. Hopkins in 1904; they traveled around the world, and she studied in Japan. While living in France, she befriended Claude Monet; and his garden at Giverny was the source for many of her floral prints. In 1915, she learned the white line/one woodblock technique from B.J.O. Nordfeldt in Provincetown, MA, and produced some landscape and figural prints.
