EDWIN BREWER OIL PAINTINGTITLE: MONTECITO BIRD SANCTUARY/ MONTECITO COUNTRY CLUBMEDIUM: OIL ON CANVASSIZE: 30" X 40"SIGNED: LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER BY ARTIST, EDWIN BREWERPAINTING RECENTLY CLEANED AND FRAMED BY CURRENT OWNEREDWIN BREWER born Little Rock Arkansas.   1927-2002In the studio of his father, Adrian, and his grandfather, Nicholas, both renowned American artist, is where Edwin Brewer began began studying all aspects of painting.  At the age of twenty, he went to Florida to study with Jerry Farnsworth for four years.  He spent summers studying with Hilton Leach at the Amagansett School of Art.  At the conclusion of these studies he won a foundation grant to the Institute de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico.  He also had the honor of studying under distinguished artists James Whitney, James Pinto, Alfaro Siqueiros and Rico Leburn.In 1969, Brewer was one of the 50 artists to be selected by the U.S. Marine Corps as a combat artist in Vietnam, recording his impressions of the people and landscape.  The paintings and lithographs he produced there are still exhibited in museums and libraries throughout the country, circulated by the Smithsonian Institute's traveling exhibition service.  The paintings are documented in the national archives in Washington, D. C. For the last 20 years of his life he lived in Santa Barbara, California.  Since the early 1990's he has had numerous one man exhibitions in Santa Barbara.This painting, Montecito Bird Sanctuary/Montecito Country Club is one of two paintings that survived from the series of 6 paintings that were commissioned by the Biltmore Hotel, Santa Barbara in the early 1970's. The rest of the paintings were stolen many years ago and where abouts unknown to this day.The current owner purchased both paintings, Montecito Bird Sanctuary/Montecito Country Club and Our Lady of Montecito Church from the Delphine Gallery in 2007 when the Biltmore Hotel went through a restoration and put the paintings up for sale at the Delphine Gallery which exhibited Brewer's work originally when he was alive.The paintings are in perfect condition and are true collector pieces unique to Santa Barbara, California.
