Mignot ": old business card of the dealer and agent, J.R. Short & Son of Chapel Hill, North Carolina ( with pencil notation on card - " relined by " ) affixed to upper stretcher bar: framed in its original fine circa 1850 gold leaf frame: frame size is 22 1/2 x 16 1/2 inches ( 42 x 57cm ): unsigned. ( It has been suggested that this is a view of the Santee River that flows from the Appalachian Mountains in western North and South Carolina.). NOTE: The work has been professionally beeswax relined on its original circa 1850 oval stretcher bars ( probably about 50+ years ago ) to give the old canvas added support: under UV examination there is no evidence of any in-painting or restorations: the canvas is in excellent condition and has the usual fine generalized craquelure for an oil of its age. ( Actual color is closest to that in my third picture taken at an angle ).
