MEXICAN FOLK ART OIL PAINTING "Woman of the Isthmus" "Mujer del Istmo" by Master Artist: Modesto Bernardo MEXICAN FOLK ART FINE OIL PAINTING "Woman of the Isthmus" "Mujer Del Istmo" (Women of the Isthmus) 1995'By Modesto Bernardo We are very proud to present to you here, the huge fine oil paintingWomen of the Isthmus "Mujer del Istmo" (1995') By Modesto BernardoBorn in 1963 in the state of Zimatlán de Alvarez, Oaxaca, Mexico, where he still resides today. Modesto Bernardo takes great pride and much artistic inspiration from his home and place of birth; Perhaps being an artist who must seemingly always portray the Oaxacan culture with its many rich & colorful traditions, was in some way predestined, as the town of Zimatlán is known throughout the world for the visually beautiful cultural festivals it seems to always be having. Though he was always interested in the arts, Modesto began to seriously study in 1985 when he attended the University Benito Juarez de Oaxaca, than continued his studies with workshops by Master Rufino Tamayo at the Taller de Artes Plasticas, and classes with Master Artist Shinzaburo Takeda at the University of Fine Arts in Nagoya, Japan. Modesto began showing his works in 1987 in Oaxaca, but was soon exhibiting his paintings as well as his prints throughout the cites of Mexico, Europe, Canada, Japan & the United States.Modesto is obviously a gifted painter, but with his continuing studies he's also become quite an accomplished print-maker and sculptor, truly a master of many techniques and mediums. In the past the Mexican School has given the world many wonderful and internationally renowned artists, among them Rudolfo Morales, Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, Diego Riviera, Frida Kalo, Sergio Hernandez, Rafael Navarro, Martin Ramirez, Guillermo Meza, Consuelo "Chelo" Gonazalea-Amezcua and Miguel Covarrubias with many young artists still yet to be recognized. Though some in the art world have yet to fully recognize and appreciate Modesto Bernardo and his magnificent works, we're sure that he Most Definitely Will be Recognized and very soon! A great deal of Modesto's beautiful work depicts the colorful costumes, traditions, motifs that can still be found in much of rural Oaxaca to this day, its his wish as well as the wishes of many of fellow countrymen. That the children of Zimatlán and all rural Oaxaca, despite growing up in a country that's been deeply divided politically, will somehow still manage to learn and to appreciate their long rich heritage with its many customs, traditions and values, taking them to heart; preserving them for the generations yet to come.This piece measures 43 inches (tall) by 39 inches (wide) by 11/2 inches (deep), its signed by the Artist and is in Excellent Condition with No Damage or Repairs.
