This is an outstanding painting of a pine tree hammock at sunset, with fiery red clouds, several shades of deep blue sky, cattails in front, and four wading great blue herons in front of the hammock. Nice reflection of the fire sky in the water.   The painting measures 24 inches by 32 inches, and including the frame it is 27 inches high and 35 inches wide. The painting is in original old frame chosen by Harold Newton. The signature is incised in the lower right corner. Plenty of brush strokes and pallette knife work.   The painting is in perefect original condition. As in most vintage highwaymen paintings the edges of the masonite board show some chipping where the board was cut, as well as the holes where the board was nailed to support while the artist worked on the painting.
