Lee' Description One framed oil painting: 'View of Tangiers' by F.R. Lee. Painted on board 13 3/4 by 17 3/4 inches. Signed and dated 1861. Frederick Robert Lee was born in 1798 and died in 1879. He was a noted landscape and seascape artist who lived most of his life in Barnstable, Devon. He trained in the Royal Academy Schools and was elected member of the Academy in 1838. He is most known for his idealized views of the British countryside and he collaborated in paintings with Landseer and T.S. Cooper. At some point he moved to South Africa which is where he died. This painting was purchased in May of 1966 from Rutland Gallery in London. Comes with bill of sale signed by J.C.H. Bibby (Director). Painting appears to be in excellent condition with the exception of what looks like a small chip at top of center. Within the US shipping costs will be $100 which includes custom made crate and insurance.
