This one, dramatic and expressive, is done in chalk with white gouache highlights and creates a wonderful sense of space and place. It's hard to imagine the French and Italian Rivieras without all the modern construction, but the coastlines really did look like this about a century ago.... The influence of 18th century Provençal artist Joseph Vernet can be felt in Seignon's work, but he's also his own man. This is a generously proportioned picture. Dimensions are roughly 17.5 inches by 11 inches. Condition is very fine and fresh appearing. The artist has signed, lower left. Fine 19th century art work, offered at a very moderate price.
