Description
Offered here is a deluxe limited edition lithograph entitled, “Pegasus”. No. 1077/2500. This print was derived from the original artwork that was used for The Grateful Dead Song Book Cover 1972. This print is part of a hand-signed edition with Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelly hand-signing each print. Each print is hand numbered and embossed. (This lithograph is part of a collection of four. All four are displayed in a hardbound portfolio which if the bidder is interested in purchasing the collection, the hardbound portfolio would be offered as well.) Alton Kelly, who just passed away recently, was best known for his pychedelic concert posters for artists like The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. He teamed up with Stanley Miller a hot-rod artist from Detroit who worked under the last name Mouse. The two formed Mouse Studios, with Mr. Kelley contributing layout and images and Mr. Mouse doing the distinctive lettering and drafting work. From 1966 to 1969 they worked on more than 150 posters for concerts at the Avalon Ballroom and the Fillmore. At the time, the posters were put up on telephone poles. Everyone who attended a concert at the Avalon received a free poster advertising the next show on the way out the door. Some were sold in head shops for a few dollars. They have designed album covers for the Steve Miller band and Journey. Today, mint-condition posters by Mr. Kelley and Mr. Mouse can command prices of $5,000 or more. In their final collaboration, in March of this year, they contributed the cover art for the program at the induction ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
