His animals are easily recognized due to their unique personalities and expressive eyes. Heath is a native Californian; and he began to cultivate his interest in art following high school. Although he didn’t major in art in college his love for it was such that he began drawing well without the benefit of formal art training. Later he became famous as the “owl man” while teaching high school art; and eventually there were over a million of his owl drawings published and distributed worldwide. In 1975 Heath began his career as a sculptor at the urging of then then head buyer for Gumps of San Francisco. His soapstone owls have become very loved and collected worldwide. Christopher Bell Gallery has been proud to have Glenn’s soapstone owls, fish, turtles and other decorative items for many years.
