"Old growth" means that the trees are hundreds of years old and have never been cut down.  Over the years, the Haida have been pivotal in defending some of the most beautiful rain forests in the world from clear-cutting. Contemporary Haida are famous for their fine art which was never lost, as so much has been preserved in museums all over the world. These items include masks, totem poles, head dresses, rattles, charms, beautiful weavings and so much more. Many carvers continue the traditions today and have made great strides in showing the world where their footsteps have taken Haida art.
