Description
This hand-signed work, by pop artist, Andy Warhol is titled "Saint Apollonia". This piece has been authenticated by the Andy Warhol Foundation and is in excellent condition. The "Saint Apollonia" image measures 30" by 22" and the sheet measures 35" x 23" (unframed). This work has been professionally framed with all archival protection being taken, including UV plexi. As the image shows, Saint Apollonia is holding a tooth with a pair of pincers. The story behind the image is that the martyr-saint Apollonia, a deaconess whose teeth were broken with pincers, was known as the patroness of toothaches. The reference for this work is in the catalogue raisonne Andy Warhol Prints (Feldman & Schellmann, 2003) as IIB.332. This particular screenprint is printed on Essex Offset Kid Finish paper and is from the Trial Proof edition. This catalogue raisonne states that each Trial Proof is unique which means there are no two images alike. This exact work is from the TP edition of 80.
