Description Collage Portrait of John [Jack] Lucas Dated 2-12-1954 BACKGROUND INFO:John [Jack] Lucas was a descendant of the Hayes-Lucas Lumber Co., of Winona, Minnesota, which later merged into Botsford Lumber Co., resulting years later in the emergence of United Building Centers (UBC). Hayes-Lucas Lumber Co. managed the retail lumber yards operated by the Laird-Norton Company, also of Winona. As a result, Jack Lucas was an independently wealthy man. He became a published author, poet and artist. He lived in Winona, Minn., Northfield, MN, and also lived for years in France, Spain and Italy. This collage portrait of him was created in 1954, presumably while he lived in France since it includes small sections of a map of Paris within the collage. I'm not sure whether it's a self-portrait which he himself created, since he was a talented artist, or if it was made by another artist. It says something in French under the date, but I can't make it out. The item appears to have been professionally framed in a black wooden frame, behind glass, with a wire for hanging at the back. There are no markings on the back. The frame measures 12" x 16-1/2" (30,5cm x 42cm) and has small nicks throughout, otherwise in good condition. The image itself measures 11" x 15-1/4" (28cm x 39 cm). A rare find, of regional interest. Bid early, before it's gone! U.S. Funds only, please.
