Miller Co., Springfield, Mass " ( picture & frame dealer ) - with Miller's pencil inventory number 1339331 and pencil  notation - " for Smith 9/1 ". Attributed to John Joseph Enneking ( 1841 - 1916 ).  Attribution is based on careful stylistic comparisons with other Enneking works and works by Enneking that I have owned in the past. My oil shows strong similarities to three other stormy sky Enneking oils that have been offered in public auction: 1. " An Autumnal Landscape Under a Cloudy Sky ", 8 x 12 inches sold Bonhams 5/2/04 for $2,938: 2. " Springtime Bloom ", 8 x 12 inches,  offered at Barridoff Auction at estimate $5 - $7,000 on 7/31/02 and 3. "Sheep Grazing ", 7.1 x 9.5 inches, sold 3/28/03 for $2,350 at Aspire Auction.  NOTE: This work is in untouched mint original condition: Under UV examination there is no sign of in-painting: frame is also in excellent condition. One of the finest 19th century frames that I have ever seen. Frame itself is extraordinary, must weigh at least 20 pounds, about 6 inches wide, classic three tier baroque ornate 18k gold leaf with some hand carving: frame size is 22 1/2 x 28 1/2 inches.
