Questions? Please email us at: artespaquime@excite.com MATA ORTIZ POTTERY... ...Each piece is fully Hand Made beggining with a coil of clay that was obtained from surrounding mountains. In the process, the Mata Ortiz artists polish their pieces with stones and bones, and paint them with hand made brushes, made from human hair (often they use the fine hair of their children) using pigments collected and ground in the area. Finaly they fire the pots directly on the floor, using wood or cow pats as fuel; (as well as in an electiric or gas kiln, in order to preserve nature). The result is a magnificent piece of Art on Clay, not intended to use for food or beberages. In this pottery town (a population of 2000 with about 300 potters), the master artist is JUAN QUEZADA. He began to rediscover the technique of the ancient Paquime Indians (or Casas Graandes) in the late 1970's and now, his work is in Museums and particular collections around the world. Centuries ago, Paquimes traded their pots and other goods with other indians such as Zuni, Jemez, Acoma, Navajo, Hopi, Cochiti, Pueblo, and Mogollon. Now, we trade and ship all around the world... from A...laska to Z..ealand! ANTIQUE CASA GRANDE-PAQUIME-QUEZADA STYLE Still looking for more Fine Mata Ortiz Ceramics?
