Born in 1952 in Saskatoon apparently- raised with wolves in suburban Vancouver. Attended and graduated from University of Victoria with such other luminaries as Carl Beam and art auctioneer Doug Levis(thank g.. he didn't become an artist) don't worry I know both these guys really well and cannot get sued. Les was strongly influenced by American artists Wayne Thiebald and Richard Diebencorn. His work is carried by Virginia Christopher Fine Art in Calgary. Historically his work has been abstract with strong associations and references to fishing(he is an avid flyfisherman) . This is one of three drawings I have referencing a specific fly-fishing vacation Les and Doug Levis(in the process of becoming a workaholic Doug in the 1980's still occasionally took vacations) to Montana. COPYRIGHT: 1981 dated 08/81 MEDIUM: mixed media on construction paper   SIZE: 19 x 25 CONDITION:  has been framed much of the time I have had it(unframed now)- matted but realistically could use new matt as well. SUMMARY:    Most art from the 1980's is crap but in an appropriate irrevelant way this piece holds up. Has all the classic elements fish just lacking the girl- keep in mind this was the 1980's before Hollywood moved to Montana. Some of Les's pieces are in private and corporate collections. I know some of his pieces still hang in the Encana collection where they have always been popular also one of Canada's ex- supreme court judges had one of Les's pieces in a prominent location in his chambers(wish his daughter would contact me)   ____________________________________________________________________  I have spent the last seven months accumulating quite a wide and varied collection of quite interesting books.
