Description
This funky yet functional piece of art was purchased in a gallery about ten years ago. The entire design has been created from bits of super-thin paper -- nothing is painted on the vase. Each piece was hand-applied on top of a solid pot form that has ridges on its exterior, which created the textured look. There are two female faces/busts (one on each side) and a pattern of circles on the back. Because the paper is tissue-thin, when two or more pieces overlap new forms and colors are created (see closeup). Using a decoupage technique, the piece was entirely coated so that in most places you can not feel the different layers. This piece can be used as a floor or table vase and would also make a cool end table base (best to add some rocks or sand inside for weight) -- just add a glass top or one made of any other material for a real conversation piece. Dated 1997, signed on the bottom by artist. This piece has been previously owned; considering it has a paper exterior it's in pretty nice shape for its years. There are a few little nicks here and there (markers easily cover). Because of all the folds and ridges, the wear doesn't distract from the beauty of the art. Shipping is a little high because this is a pretty big box.
