Description
This is a truly remarkable masterpiece which took me over a year to complete. Inspired by the colors and patterns of Indian tiles, I created square-inch tiles out of rubber, painted them, and then assembled them into a portrait. I chose Picasso because he is perhaps the most compelling artist of the 20th century. I undertook the tedious task of stitching together each tile and then gluing them to a rubber backing (on link mats). Creating this monumental artwork took every bit of patience and determination that I could muster. One must aspire to the passion of great artists in order to go beyond the ordinary. Hence the title of the work: "Cubes, Passion, Creation ...Consumed." I was so consumed (and exhausted) with creating this great work that by the time I reached the final rows, I began to despise this image of Picasso! One of the final rows, therefore, simply hangs on the right side of the mosaic (unfinished... perhaps a sign of defeat or humility). It is the type of work that one might find in a museum....extremely rare, original, and thought-provoking. It is the first object that guests talk about when they enter my home. When viewed at an angle, the cracks disappear and a life-like image appears. It looks remarkable. When viewed from a distance- Wow! ...every detail becomes apparent! When viewed up close, however, it just looks like a bunch of randomly-arranged cubes or tiles. The work is 6ft high x 4ft wide, and about 1 inch thick. If it ever gets into a decent modern art gallery, I believe it could fetch considerably more than what I am asking here on EBAY. If you are a serious art collector or even dealer, I hope you recognize the potential and achievement contained in this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. I have a hunch that an artwork like this will not come by again any time soon. Incidentally (and coincidentally), last month marked the 25th anniversary of Picasso's passing. I had no idea about that when I began creating this work. The work may be returned within 7 days if not satisfied. Any buyer, I'm sure, will be greatly rewarded for acquiring this rare work.
