Description
Magnificent FRITZ SCHOLDER Signed 1977 Color Monoprint Click to View Image Album This is a magnificent original signed museum quality color monoprint by internationally acclaimed artist FRITZ SCHOLDER (American, 1937-2005), circa 1977. Fritz Scholder, a Native American artist and experienced lithographer, was born in 1937 in Breckenridge Minnesota. Encouraged to paint in 1950 by Oscar Howe and Wayne Thiebaud, Scholder says "...it is my intention not only to set up graphically a new visual experience for the viewer, but also to make a statement in regard to the society and land in which we, the descendants of the American Indian, live. I am well aware that my paintings are not literal, for to me some ideas require unique statements. I try to capture not only the physical, but the inner and even spiritual." Scholder has exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad. His work is included in many public and private collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Hirschhorn Museum of Fine Arts, Washington, D.C.; the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institute; and the Boston Fine Arts Museum. This superb original color monoprint is entitled “Portrait of an Unknown Person #2” and is signed in pencil by the artist on the front lower right “Scholder”. It is also titled in pencil on the lower left. It bears the embossed blindstamps of the publisher and printer on the front lower center. It is in apparent excellent condition (it has not been examined out of the frame), measures 27 ¼” x 36” (image) and is matted and framed in a natural wood frame and linen mat for a total size of 35 ½” x 45” (there is slight wear to the frame). Authenticity is GUARANTEED. A monoprint or monotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind item. The ink or paint is applied to the paper through a press, however only one example is produced – it is not editioned. It is therefore very similar to a unique painting or a watercolor. Similar monoprints by Fritz Scholder sell in major galleries for over $4,000. Please scroll down on the item description to view additional photographs. Winning bidder add $65.00 packing & shipping within the US, plus required insurance. Payment is due within 7 days.
