Drawing signed Tomasello. 1962. Gay Interest' Description DESCRIPTION   This is a well executed pastel of a handsome male nude, dated June '62. This gentleman is clean cut and well proportioned (and endowed). He does indeed look like he could be one of the guys in "Mad Men."   This is the work of Vito Tomasello, an artist who was active in the downtown NY scenes in the pre- and post-Stonewall eras. There is not much information about Mr. Tomasello. He is listed in the index of the LGBT materials at the NY public library, although it is only a mention of a show of portraits and nudes by the artist, held in the 1970s. I have also seen a reference that indicates Tomasello produced commissioned portraits.   The work is on a piece of light drawing paper, 18 x 12 inches. There are pin hole tears at the upper corners, but otherwise the paper is in very good condition. The drawing also is in good condition. The focus of the drawing is the central section, with some stray marks and smudges at right and left. The artist included a background of pinkish and gray pastel, which helps to focus on the central area of the drawing. (And pink and gray makes a true mid-century color combination.)   In the last photo, I placed white paper over the sides, to give an idea of how the piece could be matted with the pink/gray background centered, and the figure thus standing toward the right side and the signature at lower left. This produces a good balance to the image, and hides the smudged margins.   This is a professional quality drawing from an interesting gay artist who deserves further research.  It would look fantastic framed.   CA residents will be charged 8.75% sales tax.
