This is an unsigned original piece that was purchased in Santa Fe by a private collector. (We have two different pieces by Max Alvarez and one by his brother David, all offered by same collector.) This folk art rooster measures approx. 17.5" at the tallest point and approx. 12" from beak to tail.  Body appears to be carved from one piece of wood, we're unsure if the neck & head are part of the same piece or added on. The rooster has a raffia tail and stands on a circular cut of rough wood. The base is approx. 6.75" diameter. We found a little information about Max Alvarez on the website www.detourart.com There are some age cracks in the wood, one is at base of neck where it meets the body. Tail is a little dusty. This piece was  probably made in the 1980's.
