The thick blues, greens, and reds serve to highlight the dominate black shape central to the work, which is further accented by splatters of color dotting the background. These organic forms appear to leap from the sheet, its strokes and crescents intersecting to create an almost familiar image, inspiring our own curiosity and actively involving our own imaginations and consciousness. As one of the pioneers of the Surrealist movement throughout the early-mid 20th century, this lithograph from Joan Miró Lithographe I, is one of the most whimsical and charming pieces of the series, surely not to be missed. Created in 1972, this original color lithograph is one out of a series of 14 Joan Miró created for an illustrated book entitled Joan Miró Lithographe I. With text by Michel Leiris, the lithographs were printed by Mourlot, Paris and lettered 'H.C.' in pencil in the lower left margin. Hand-signed by Joan Miró (1893 - 1983) in pencil in the lower right, this work is out of the total edition of 150 signed and numbered proofs printed on Rives wove paper.
