DISCUSSION: Strong plate marks, vivid color, and large scale combine in this monumental color etching and aquatint. In Llibre dels Sis Sentits III, Miro combines these characteristics to create a delightfully energetic and enjoyable piece. Created in 1981, this work is from a series of 6 color etchings and aquatints entitled, Llibre dels Sis Sentis (Book of the Six Senses), designed to compliment 6 poems by Miquel Marti i Pol. This work was printed by JJ Torralba, Rubi, Barcelona, and published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona. The piece was printed on Guarro with the publisher's watermark. Noted HC for 'Hors Commerce,' an artist's proof aside from the edition of 50, in pencil the lower left. This piece contains a guaranteed authentic signature by Miro in pencil in the lower right. Capturing our attention through the use of large bold vertical forms, this complex and dynamic work uses the power of color, composition, and a distinctive textural quality to convey energy and excitement. Utilizing a vigorous and energetic application to the plate with deep impression marks, Miró creates an image that combines stability with lively movement. With accents of bright yellow, green and red, the vibrant hues guide our eyes around the piece, never stopping in one area-thereby maintaining the vigor and energetic quality of the work.
