EDITION: Numbered 13/75 in pencil in the lower left. CONDITION: This work is in excellent condition, with the colors bright and fresh, extending to the sheet edges. DISCUSSION: A monumental color lithograph, this work envelopes the viewer with its vibrant tones and dramatic coloration. Miró presents the viewer with an amusing figure who appears to vibrate off the page due to the explosive orange hues of the background. Saturating the entire page with a brilliant flourescence, Miró presents an animated character with discernable eyes and a grinning mouth. The tones of bright oranges and creamy marigolds explode towards the viewer, lending a sense of energy and movement to the work. Offering a narrative impetus, Miró's title sparks the imagination. "Pitting poet against craftsman, Miró's varied strategies aim, more often than not, at surprising existing aesthetic orders by discovering possibilities latent within them" (Lancher, 74). Created in 1969, this work is hand signed by Joan Miró (1893 - 1983) in pencil in the lower right and numbered 13/75 in pencil in the lower left. Printed by Art Adrien Maeght on Rives vellum paper and published by Maeght.
