Description Nikolai Efimovich Timkov "Academichka Landscape With Herd" Up for bid is a splendid painting titled "Academichka Landscape With Herd" by the well known Russian Impressionist Nikolai Timkov. It is oil on board and measures 10.13" x 6.63". Complimenting this fabulous piece is an equally beautiful museum quality frame with an outside measurement of 16" x 12.5". The painting dates from 1963 and has been signed and dated by Timkov in the lower left corner (see photo). Recent auctions of Nikolai Timkov's work have reflected his escalating popularity among collectors. In June, Heritage Auction Galleries sold two pieces: a 14" x 20" for $17,930 and a 22" x 28" for $21,510. MacDougall's Auctions sold a 20.87" x 27.76" for $22,850 and a 19.29" x 27.17" for $28,860. Nikolai Timkov is one of the greatest Russian landscape painters of the second half of the twentieth century. He was born at a settlement in Nakhichevanskaya Dacha close to Rostov-on-Don. Timkov began his training in 1928 at the age of 16 at the Rostov Art College and continued his studies at the Moscow Institute of Arts. In 1939, Timkov graduated from the I. Repin Institute in the I. Brodsky workshop. An Honorary Soviet Artist, he died in 1993 at the age of 81. Paintings by Nikolai Timkov are in the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, and in art museums and private collections in Russia and throughout the world.
