ONE OF A KIND CLAY SCULPTURE DRAHANCHUK 1962 BOOBY TRAP This sculpture was throw on a potters wheel. It has a hole in the neck like a vase.This auction is for a "one of a kind" sculpture by Famous artist Ed Drahanchuk. Made in clay a female bust with little man caught in bosom. Ed Drahanchuk was born in 1938. He is of Ukrainian ancestry. Ed graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1963 and set up his own art studio, where he specialized in ceramics. He has participated in ninety government and gallery exhibitions, in fifteen countries. Many of his pieces were purchased for Canadian embassies. In 1969, he moved into a specially designed 5600 square foot studio/residence. This building won an award as one of Canada's best designed buildings for the decade 1960-70. In 1975, Ed and his wife Ethel, also an artist, moved and set up a new studio on Quadra Island, B.C. which is a fifteen minute ferry ride from Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Ethel specializes in soapstone sculptures bronzes, and pottery. In 1983, Ed began specializing in painting as well as ceramics. His murals can be found in the Hudson Bay Oil and Gas Building (Calgary), Alberta House (London, UK), Royal Bank of Canada (Calgary), Mercantile Bank (Vancouver), and many other locations. A few of the many awards of this successful artist are Canada Council Grant, "Best Group by one potter" (Canadian Ceramics Show), "Best stoneware, best design" (Canadian Ceramics 65), Allied Arts Medal (Royal Architectural Inst. of Canada), Achievement Award - Excellence in Art (Government of Alberta), Design of Excellence Awards (Design Canada). Regarding his nature paintings, art critic says they are "radiant. ... Ed Drahanchuk's paintings are striking from across the room and intriguing close up." Ed Drahanchuk is [one of] the most successful artists of Ukrainian ancestry in Canada. He is somewhat known in the Ukrainian Canadian community.
