Description
This is a Chris Owen original gouache on paper, signed by the artist. The title of this original work is “The Boss”. This is NOT a limited edition print, but rather a rare and difficult to obtain original painting. circa 2000. The image size is 16 inches by 26 inches. The artwork was originally framed by the artist and over all dimensions are 30 inches high by 40 inches wide. I have provided photos of the framed work, detail (unframed) and a close up of the subject mater…a roping crew “boss” usually the most senior, skilled and knowledgeable member of the ranch crew. Chris Owen original artwork is normally only available at prestigious western art shows including the Coors Western Art Exhibit in Denver, Colorado, and the CM Russell Auction in Great Falls Montana. Prices for Chris Owen originals have been escalating, with Oils exceeding $10,000 and Gouache on Paper works like this exceeding $7500. Owen’s work will be shown at the upcoming Cheyenne Frontiers Days Governor's Invitational Western Art Show and Sale on July 17th, 2008...but you will need to win a lottery drawing BEFORE you will be allowed to buy the original because of the incredible demand for Owen's work at these events! Using the versatility of watercolor and gouache, Chris Owen is particularly adept at capturing movement, energy and the gestures of the present day cowboy with an impressionistic flair. The ranches, cattle and horses of Billings, Montana, have surrounded Chris Owen all his life. His family homesteaded property in Billings in 1908, and the working cowboys on local ranches of friends and neighbors provide images for his artwork. Chris Owen savors the solitude of his log cabin studio, just outside of Billings on 15 acres. Since he works most often in watercolor, he appreciates no interruptions while in the middle of painting with traditional washes and gouache. "Watercolor is a big controlled accident and lends itself to spontaneity like no other," comments Owen. "I take quite a few photos and start going through them to find something that sparks me. There is not a lot of preconception involved in my work. I let each piece evolve." Chris Owen majored in art at Montana State University. He was the recipient of a scholarship to the acclaimed Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California, where he studied for two years. Chris Owen plans to continue living and painting in Montana where he is at home and inspired by the radiance of the American west. Chris Owen exhibits annually at the Coors Western Art Exhibit in Denver, Colorado, and the Cheyenne Frontiers Days Governor's Invitational Western Art Show. His work has won best in show in both of these venues, and has been the featured work in the annual posters for these shows. Normally sold only by lottery, the opportunity to purchase an original Chris Owen work is extremely rare. Art will be packed and shipped professionally and shipped as directed by buyer without any mark-up or additional cost. Insurance will be required. If the buyer requests, I will deliver the painting to the Cheyenne Frontiers Days Western Art Show during the rodeo on a day of your choice. This is a once in a life time opportunity for the collector to own a CHRIS OWEN ORIGINAL.
