Description
Otonda Mosely painting "Holding the Watermelon"16X20 on Artboard. Otonda Mosely was born 1935 in Samburg, TN. She was one the youngest of 9 children. Her father was killed in a hunting accident right after she was born. After her mother died at the age of 40 Otonda lived with an aunt until she met and married Jodus Mosely. They earned their living as sharecroppers until later years when they were able to buy some land of their own near Crockett Bottom, TN. Otonda and Jodus had 6 children with two sets being twins. She started becoming interested in art after helping one of her children with a drawing assignment for a school project. She painted just for a hobby for about 6 years then people started becoming interested in collecting it. When too many people started asking her to do draw and paint art to give as presents to friends she had to start charging money. She sold her paintings at art and craft festivals as well as to private buyers. Her husband, Jodus Mosely, died from a heart attack in 1995. Otonda died of a stroke in 2006.
