Description
PAUL LE CHIEN ORIGINAL INK PEN DRAWING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PAPER "LUCKY STAR" 1999 (FRONT - PICTURE 1) "A STUDY" (REVERSE - PICTURE 2) HAND SIGNED AND DATED ACID FREE ART PAPER 200g 13.9 X 15 cm (IRREGULAR HANDCUT SHAPE - TYPICAL OF THE ARTIST) Paul LeChien And The Art of Enticement "Paul was born in the early Sixties in a tiny Yorkshire village in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the moors. He never made it to art school, choosing instead to do what sensible people usually do in such situations at the tender age of sixteen, he upped and ran away to London. Although it was the allure of a then emerging punk scene that had first drawn him into the bright lights of the big city, once there he soon found something even more attractive. He was swiftly sucked in to the gay club circuit, winding up some ten years later as one of the key figures in the notorious Daisychain team (originally held at the Fridge in Brixton, The Tattooed Loverboy, The Red Hot Poker, Uranus and their most recent venture at the West End bar Pandemonium.). The strong sense of continuity afforded to these clubs by Paul's stunning visuals was a major factor in their success. Clubs like the Daisychain and The Tattooed Loverboy were the sort of place in which they'd congregate. Paul LeChien was the one who was enticing them in, entertaining them once they were inside and documenting them once he'd got home. Many of the fabulous drawings in his collection were originally seen on handbills and flyers used to advertise those heady nights of gay abandon, or had been thrown onto the walls of the club in gigantic slide projections that would eroticise the entire building. These visuals soon became celebrated in their own right - and rightly so. Unlike the men drawn by Paul's most obvious artistic ancestors - the unfeasibly big cops with even bigger cocks of Tom of Finland, and George Quaintance's quaint cowboy idylls - these boys really exist. for this simple reason his work has more in common with Cocteau's mecs and matelots on the quayside or in the bathhouse. These are gods who walk amongst men." The Tattooed Loverboy & Other Drawings, 1991 His book is sold now used on Amazon FROM U$200!
